Scheduled ships run from from Cape Town to Tristan da Cunha and return. All but one are on vessels provided by the fishing company Ovenstones which each carry only 12 passengers. Presently these vessels are the fishing vessel MV Edinburgh, (which carries out extended fishing trips to the outer islands of Inaccessible, Nightingale and Gough in the fishing season) and the cargo ship MV Baltic Trader.

You can't just turn up in Cape Town and jump on a ship to Tristan da Cunha.
All visitors need the prior approval of the Administrator / Island Council,
and should be prepared upon request to obtain a local Police Certificate in advance, to show on arrival see details in Second Step below.
